Beniya Seika: Mount Hakodate
A famous local confection shaped like Mount Hakodate, the symbol of Hakodate. Created by Beniya Seika in 1958, this treat consists of 'Momoyama-an' (white bean paste mixed with egg yolk) gently enveloping dice-shaped castella cake flavored with rum. Mount Hakodate is also known as 'Gayu-zan' (Lying Cow Mountain) because its silhouette resembles a cow resting on the ground, and this reclining mountain range is reflected in the plump shape of the Japanese confection. It is a taste of home that has been cherished by the people of Hakodate for a long time. It features an elegant sweetness with a subtle aroma of liqueur in the moist cake. The retro-style packaging, which evokes memories of the streets of Hakodate, is also part of its charm.
