Mataunoume (Mataunoume Sake Brewery)
This is the sake of Saga's oldest brewery, named by the feudal lord. Mataunoume Sake Brewery in Saga City is the oldest brewery in Saga Prefecture, said to have been founded in Genroku 1st year (1688). The name originates from an elegant anecdote: during the Ansei era, the feudal lord Naomasa Nabeshima saw white plum blossoms dancing into the fermentation vats and named it "Mataunoume" (Window of Plum Blossoms). Brewed with rice and water from the Saga Plain, the sake features a soft mouthfeel and subtle sweetness. It has long been enjoyed by local households and restaurants, loved as one of Saga's representative local sakes. Please take your time to enjoy this traditional flavor that has been passed down for over 300 years.
