Kanzaki Somen Sweets

Crunchy and crispy. A subtle sweetness spreads along with a fragrant texture. These are Kanzaki Somen Sweets, where Saga's traditional noodles have been transformed into a new kind of confectionery. Kanzaki somen is a hand-stretched noodle from Saga with a history spanning approximately 390 years. It is said to have begun in 1635 (Kan'ei 12) when a traveling monk, who fell ill at an inn in Kanzaki, shared the production method as a token of gratitude to those who cared for him. Using these historic noodles, various treats have been created, including fried somen karinto and cookies made with somen flour. You can easily enjoy this traditional noodle culture as a snack. Please pair their crispy texture with your favorite tea.
