Imari-yaki Manju
When you break open the moist, baked crust, a gentle sweet aroma wafts out. Taking a bite, the smooth sweetness of the bean paste spreads through your mouth. This is the Imari-yaki Manju, named in connection with this village of ceramics. Imari is located near Arita, where Japan's first porcelain was fired in the 17th century. It is a town where the history of pottery lives on, as these wares were shipped to various regions from Imari Port (Imari-tsu). It is said that the name 'Imari-yaki' originated from the name of this shipping port. Reflecting this ceramic culture, these manju feature adorable designs inspired by Imari porcelain patterns. With a rich variety of flavors such as white bean paste and matcha paste, they are the perfect souvenir for visiting local kilns. Please enjoy this unique specialty of the pottery town along with a cup of tea.
