Karatsu Kunchi Manju
When you break open the fluffy skin, you see the bean paste inside. One bite spreads a gentle sweetness that brings comfort. This is the Karatsu Kunchi Manju, inspired by the festivals of Karatsu. Karatsu Kunchi is an autumn festival held at Karatsu Shrine every November. Since the first float, 'Akajishi,' was created in 1819 (Bunsei 2), it has become one of Japan's three major Kunchi festivals, with 14 magnificent floats parading through the castle town. This manju is a celebratory sweet that captures the image of those brilliant floats. The colorful wrappers decorated with float motifs are delightful, making it a beloved souvenir for Karatsu tourists. Please enjoy its gentle sweetness while reflecting on the passion and bustle of the festival.
