Enshin Monaka

A monaka rich in history, bearing the name of a warrior who survived the turmoil of the Nanboku-cho period. Kamigori Town is known as a place associated with Akamatsu Enshin, a military commander who raised his troops to overthrow the Kamakura Shogunate and supported the Kenmu Restoration. His name continues to be passed down as a great pride of the town, leading to the creation of many local specialties named after him. This monaka is one of them. It is a simple yet deeply flavorful treat, featuring bean paste made by slowly simmering locally grown adzuki beans, encased in a crisp and fragrant wafer. The flavor, created by the harmony of the fragrant wafer and the gentle sweetness of the bean paste, evokes a sense of nostalgia and peace. It is a signature confection of Kamigori, perfect to enjoy while reflecting on history.
