Inuyama Genkotsu Ame

As soon as you put it in your mouth, the fragrant aroma of kinako gently wafts up. As you chew, the rich sweetness of brown sugar slowly spreads, accompanied by a subtle hint of sesame flavor. This is a simple yet addictive candy passed down through the castle town of Inuyama. Its roots trace back to the early Edo period. It is said to have originated when Naruse Masashige, the lord of Inuyama Castle, devised it as a ration for soldiers during military campaigns, and it has since been beloved as a specialty of the castle town. Even today, long-established shops founded in the Tempo era or Meiji era remain in the castle town, kneading malt syrup, kinako, and brown sugar using traditional methods. One piece with your tea, or one during a stroll. Its nostalgic sweetness will warm your very heart.
