Seto ware
The birthplace of the word 'setomono'. Seto ware is a type of pottery that has continued for over a thousand years in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture. The reason why ceramics in general are called 'setomono' throughout Japan stems from the name of Seto, which has long led the pottery industry. As one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan, it was known during the Middle Ages as the only production area in the country to fire glazed pottery. Representative glazes such as ash glaze, Oribe, Ki-seto, and Shino are still passed down to this day. A profound expression created by high-quality clay and diverse glazes. From everyday tableware to renowned works of art, it is a prestigious type of pottery that has continued to enrich people's lives for a millennium.
