Haika
A confection infused with the scent of literature, born from 'Matsuyama, the City of Haiku.' True to this land that produced the Meiji-era haiku poet Masaoka Shiki, it is a beloved, atmospheric sweet inspired by the persimmons that Shiki loved. It is crafted by Tokiya, an established shop founded in 1933 and known for the famous Matsuyama confection 'Tart.' The shop's name was given with the sincere business spirit of 'keeping the hands straight,' much like how the hands of a clock align at six o'clock. It offers a fusion of Japanese and Western flavors, featuring elegant bean paste wrapped in moist baked dough. This is a treat you will want to enjoy after traveling through Matsuyama while reflecting on Shiki's haiku. When served alongside tea, it gently evokes the nostalgic atmosphere of the old castle town.
