Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky. The place where his story began is here in Takehara. Masataka Taketsuru was born in 1894 at Takehara Shuzo, a sake brewery in Takehara. As the third son of the brewery known by its shop name 'Kosasa-ya,' he traveled to Scotland to study the art of whisky making. After returning to Japan, he established distilleries in places like Yoichi, Hokkaido, and founded Nikka Whisky. He is known as a man who dedicated his entire life to the craft of whisky making. In Takehara, where beautiful streets with white-walled buildings remain, traces of that era still live on. Please come and experience the story of the birth of Japanese whisky in the birthplace of 'Massan'.
