Jabara
The name 'Jabara' is written with characters meaning 'to drive away evil.' It is a phantom citrus fruit known only to Kitayama Village in Wakayama Prefecture. Considered a relative of yuzu and kabosu, Jabara is a rare citrus that has grown wild in Kitayama Village since ancient times, and it was confirmed to be a new variety in 1972. It has garnered attention for being rich in naringin, a type of flavonoid, and has now become an important specialty product that supports the lives of this small village. Its unique acidity and a sudden hint of bitterness provide a character unlike any other. With its auspicious name, once you taste this fruit, you may never forget it. There are many ways to enjoy it, from squeezing the juice for drinks to finely slicing the peel for condiments.
