Adjacent to the home of Nanko plums, Kamitonda Town is a producer of high-quality plums, bordering Tanabe and Minabe. Even in Kamitonda, which sits next to the heart of Kishu—Japan's number one plum region—plums are cultivated by taking advantage of the warm climate. The harvested plums are transformed into various processed products, including umeboshi, becoming the town's specialty. These plums are carefully crafted, grain by grain, within a blessed environment nurtured by the premier plum-growing region in Japan. Our umeboshi, slowly finished with salt and the sun, possess a deep richness beneath their acidity. Perfect as an accompaniment to rice, a filling for rice balls, or in summer lunch boxes.
