Arida Mikan (Mandarin Orange)

As you peel the skin, a fresh, bursting aroma fills the air. With every segment, a pleasant harmony of sweetness and acidity makes it easy to keep reaching for the next one. It is said that mandarin cultivation in the Arida region boasts a history of approximately 450 years. During the Edo period, cultivation expanded under the protection of the Kishu Clan, impressing the people of Edo with what became known as 'Kishu Mikan.' During the Kyoho era, it is said that hundreds of thousands of baskets of mandarins were transported to Edo annually. Wakayama Prefecture continues to lead the nation in mandarin production today, with Arida at its heart. The mandarin orchards spreading across the slopes are a landscape built over many long years. Enjoy one while sitting by a kotatsu in winter. Please experience the quintessential standard of Japanese mandarins.
