Shinonsen Local Sake
Shinonsen Town faces the Sea of Japan at the northernmost edge of Tajima. Known for its ports like Hamasaka and Moroyoshi and famous for winter Matsuba crab, this town has long been widely recognized as the ancestral home of the Tajima Toji (master brewers) since the Edo period. The Tajima Toji are one of Japan's leading groups of sake makers. Inheriting that tradition, in 2019, the 'Buntaro' brewery—named after the local mountaineer Buntarō Katō—reappeared in the town for the first time in half a century, creating a great sensation. Relaxing at a hot spring inn while pairing freshly caught Matsuba crab with local sake—this is a local sake nurtured by a coastal town in the San'in region, perfectly suited for such luxurious moments.
