Kenbishi (Kenbishi Sake Brewery)

A brand among the oldest in Japan, loved for over 500 years and frequently appearing in historical period dramas. The roots of Kenbishi Sake Brewery trace back to a brewery founded in Itami in 1505. While eventually moving its operations to Nada, it has continued to preserve its unchanging flavor. In the Edo period, it gained immense popularity as 'kudari-zake' (sake transported to Edo); it is even said that the Ako Roshi (the 47 Ronin) chose it as their pre-battle sake, and that it was designated as the sake for the meals of the eighth Shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune. As a representative of the powerful and bold 'Nada no Otokozake,' it has appeared in numerous cultural works. Its unchanging, robust, and dry taste provides a deep, satisfying moisture to the throat, carrying with it the weight of five centuries of history.
