Fukusaki, the Town of Kappa
Fukusaki Town is a "Town of Yokai" (monsters) that gave birth to the folklorist Kunio Yanagita. As the birthplace of Kunio Yanagita, known as the father of Japanese folklore, the town preserves legends of the Kappa. A popular tourist spot is the monument of "Gajiro," a Kappa that peeks out from a pond; it features a mechanism where it dives back into the water at scheduled times to surprise onlookers.
