Ichikawa: The Town of Golf
Ichikawa Town is known as the birthplace of domestically produced golf irons. Its history began around 1928, when blacksmith Seitaro Morita applied sword-making techniques and spent three years completing the first domestically produced golf iron head. The forging skills cultivated in sword making were reborn into the new form of a golf club. Even today, more than ten workshops that inherit these traditional forging techniques continue to operate, allowing the town to progress as a town of artisans. Although it is not food, it is the pride of the town—so much so that there are facilities where you can test-drive irons through hometown tax donation programs. If you visit Ichikawa Town, please experience the story of this artisan town.
