Medicinal Herbs of Tanba
The land of Tanba has been known as a 'village of medicinal herbs' since ancient times. Herbs that care for the body, such as Angelica (Toki) and Peony (Shakuyaku), are grown here and have long been enjoyed in medicinal cooking and herbal teas. In the Wada district of Sannami Town, Tanba City, it is said that medicinal herb cultivation began as far back as 1840. The well-draining soil, rich in gravel, is ideal for medicinal herbs, and the region was once so famous nationwide that it was called the 'Medicinal Herb Kingdom.' Even today, varieties counted among the three major medicinal herbs are cultivated, and approximately 300 species of medicinal herbs can be observed at the municipal Medicinal Herb and Tree Park. Take a relaxing break with an aromatic herbal tea. It is a unique blessing of Tanba, where the wisdom of ancient people lives on.
