Kawanishi Figs

When speaking of the representative fruit of Kawanishi City, it is undoubtedly the sweet and juicy fig. Its roots trace back to 1908, when Kojiro Masui brought back the 'Dauphine' variety from America. Alongside Tomokichi Maekawa, a resident of Hagiwara in Kawanishi, he succeeded in cultivation, and 'Masui Dauphine' grew into a major fig variety in Japan. This historic specialty will celebrate its 100th anniversary of cultivation in 2025. A major strength is the ability to deliver freshly picked, fully ripe fruit by leveraging its location close to consumption centers in the Hanshin area. With a gentle sweetness and meltingly ripe flesh, they are delicious as they are, as well as in jams and sweets. It is a must-try item during its peak season.
