Edamame from the Nishitani District of Takarazuka

When you put a single bean, removed from its pod, into your mouth, a robust sweetness and deep richness spread across your palate. These black edamame, grown in the Nishitani district of northern Takarazuka City, are a popular seasonal delicacy that many people eagerly await each autumn. This black edamame is harvested from the young, green fruits before the Tanba Black Soybeans fully ripen and turn black. By growing slowly amidst the temperature fluctuations of the mountainous region, the beans develop into plump, large grains that store deep sweetness and umami. They are available only for a very short period in autumn. Because of this, there are many fans who look forward to the season every year. Pop a freshly boiled bean right out of its pod. It pairs perfectly with beer or as a snack. It is an autumn delight in Takarazuka that will impress any bean lover.
