Asakura Sansho

Sprinkling a bit over grilled eel (unagi kabayaki) instantly releases a refreshing aroma, tightening and enhancing the dish's flavor. The charm of Asakura Sansho lies in its juicy, citrus-like fragrance and its clean, gentle spiciness. It is a 'gem of aroma' that even chefs around the world fall in love with. This is a native variety that has been cultivated in the Asakura district of Yoka-cho, Yabu City, for approximately 400 years. These are raw sansho berries close to the original species that have not undergone modern breeding; they are characterized by heavy clusters of fruit on branches without thorns. It is also a prestigious product that was presented to the Shogunate by the Izushi Domain during the Edo period. Large, beautiful green berries packed with aromatic compounds. A proud supporting actor of Tajima that elevates any dish with just a single sprinkle.
