Izumiotsu Wagashi

This is 'Kurumi Mochi,' a sweet treat consisting of mochi wrapped in soybean paste, passed down through generations in Izumiotsu, the town of blankets. It is made by 'Wagashishi Ponponya,' a long-established shop founded in 1933. Kurumi Mochi is a traditional Senshu sweet that is indispensable for festive occasions where large crowds gather, such as the Danjiri Festival and New Year celebrations. Although the shop once faced the brink of bankruptcy, sales increased fourfold following a change in management, and it has once again garnered significant attention. Featuring bright green mochi coated in edamame paste, this is a simple and rustic treat. Please take a moment to taste this gentle sweetness unique to Izumiotsu, which has been a part of the local community's lives across generations.
