Shinano Town Corn
In summer, Shinano Town becomes a bustling highland town filled with people seeking delicious corn. The road stretching from Kurohime to Togakushi is also known as the "Corn Highway" and is widely recognized as a famous production area for sweet corn. Surrounded by the five mountains of Hokushin, this area is blessed with rich soil derived from volcanic ash and clear water springing from the mountains. The large temperature difference between day and night, along with the cool climate covered in morning mist, allows the kernels to concentrate their sweetness. The harvest season is approximately from late July to late August. Freshly picked corn in the morning is incredibly juicy and surprisingly sweet. The kernels pop when bitten, releasing a burst of juice. Please try a freshly harvested ear from the direct sales shops.
