Nakano Grapes
Shinshu Nakano is one of Japan's leading grape-producing regions. Located at the foot of Shiga Kogen, Nakano City has been known since the 1970s as a famous producer of large, dark Kyoho grapes, and in recent years, it has been an early adopter in establishing production for Shine Muscat, which can be eaten with the skin. The significant temperature difference between day and night allows the grapes to accumulate intense sweetness and rich aromas. High-sugar Kyoho grapes, seedless and elegantly sweet Shine Muscats, and the Nagano-born Nagano Purple—all offer flavors unique to Nakano. During the autumn grape-picking season, the area bustles with people seeking freshly picked berries. Behind the skin that bursts with a pop, you can taste the sunlight of Shinshu and the cool mountain air.
