Source Katsudon

When you open the lid of the bowl, a large cutlet sits prominently atop a bed of shredded cabbage. The aroma of the sweet and savory sauce will make your stomach growl. This is Komagale's famous Source Katsudon. Its origins date back to the early Showa era, when it is said that a restaurant in Komagane called 'Kiraku' began serving freshly fried tonkatsu dipped in a special sauce. Eventually, it became a symbol of local revitalization, leading to the formation of the 'Komagane Source Katsudon Association' in 1993. Today, in Komagane, the term 'Katsudon' refers to this sauce-based version rather than the traditional egg-simmered variety, having become the true face of the region. A harmony of hot cutlet and cold cabbage, enjoyed in a town embraced by two mountain ranges of the Alps. Once you try it, you will never forget it.
