Matsudo Pears (The Birthplace of Nijuuseiki Pears)
With just one bite, sweet juice drips to the very core—Matsudo is the land where the famous 'Nijuuseiki Pear' was born. In 1888, a 13-year-old boy named Kakunosuke Matsudo found a single seedling growing in a garbage dump. After ten years of careful cultivation, the resulting pears featured a small core, white flesh with an elegant sweetness, and melting juice—becoming a masterpiece that would represent future generations. It is said that it was named with the wish that no pear greater than this would appear in the approaching 20th century. Even now, a diverse variety of pears, such as Kosui and Housui, are harvested in Matsudo. Taking a single bite, you can almost feel the joy of that young boy.
