Chiba Peanuts
When you crack the shell, you find plump, fat kernels covered in a thin skin. Once popped into your mouth, a rich, sweet umami spreads after an initial burst of roasted aroma—Chiba peanuts boast a depth of flavor that sets them apart from others. It is said that peanut cultivation in Chiba dates back to the beginning of the Meiji era. Around 1876, the start of local cultivation is believed to have begun with experimental crops using seeds brought from Kanagawa, and eventually, production expanded around Yachimata, which is blessed with well-drained Kanto loam soil. During the post-war food shortages, their nutritional value was re-evaluated, making Yachimata a famous production area known nationwide. Even today, it boasts the highest cultivation area and production volume in Japan. Enjoy them freshly roasted, crisp right out of the shell. It is a simple taste, yet one that makes it impossible to stop eating.
