Akashiya Ikomochi (Roasted Rice Flour Mochi)

A traditional Kagoshima local sweet, 'Ikomochi,' made using traditional methods by Akashiya. Founded in 1854, this is a simple, rustic treat from a long-established shop known as the progenitor of Karukan. Ikomochi has been enjoyed in Kagoshima and Miyazaki since the Edo period. It is made by grinding roasted glutinous rice into powder and kneading it with sugar. Akashiya has continued to uphold the traditional method of kneading roasted rice powder with sugar syrup since its founding. It features a chewy texture and the fragrant aroma of roasted rice. It tastes like an unadorned, nostalgic flavor of home. Please enjoy it with tea while feeling the history of Satsuma.
