Kasho Tanaka - Cheese Manju

It feels like a Japanese sweet, yet somewhat like a Western pastry—the 'Cheese Manju' features cream cheese wrapped inside. Produced by Kasho Tanaka in Izumi City, this manju consists of dough made from Kyushu-grown wheat, fermented butter, and Hokkaido cheese, enveloping smooth cream cheese. Chocolate chips provide a nice accent, and the richness of the cheese combined with a simple sweetness spreads gently in your mouth. While Cheese Manju is said to have originated in the neighboring Miyazaki Prefecture, it has become a well-known sweet in Kagoshima as well. It can be enjoyed both chilled or slightly warmed, offering a delicious fusion of Japanese and Western styles. This manju possesses a mysterious charm that pairs well with both tea and coffee.
