Kyuman
These are moxibustion-shaped manju (steamed buns) designed to soothe tired legs after the climb. "Kyuman" is the signature confection of Ishidan-ya, with its main shop located on the approach to Konpira-san. It is well-known as a classic souvenir for those visiting Kotohira-gu Shrine. Its roots trace back to the inn "Asadaya Kyuhachi," founded in 1765. It is said that at that time, the women of the inn would apply Konpira moxibustion to the tired feet of travelers. Later, when the business transitioned into a teahouse, they began creating these moxibustion-shaped buns inspired by that anecdote. Wrapped in a delicate, elegant sweetness, the bun features a yellow bean paste made with egg yolks. It is a prize-winning item that has received the Honorary President's Award at the National Confectionery Expo. The gentle sweetness will surely soothe your fatigue from walking the shrine approach.
