Meibutsu Kamado

The shape of a kiln used for salt-making holds the stories of Sanuki. 'Meibutsu Kamado' is a representative confection of Kagawa, founded in 1936 as Arakiya. It is a staple souvenir that you are bound to see if you travel through Kagawa. Its name and shape originate from a legend involving Gyoki, a monk from the Nara period. It is said that when Gyoki taught a salt-making method using a kiln to young women struggling with salt production on the Sanuki coast, the villagers were greatly overjoyed. The confection is modeled after that very kiln. It offers an elegant taste, with moist dough softly enveloping yolk bean paste made from lima beans and egg yolks. It is a long-beloved masterpiece of Sanuki. A reliable choice for tea time or as a gift.
