Aobana Sand Cookies
Sand cookies named after the vibrant blue flower 'Aobana' that colors the summer in Kusatsu. Aobana (Dayflower) is a member of the Commelina family and is the official flower of Kusatsu City. Cultivated around Kusatsu since the Edo period, its floral juice was highly valued as a raw material for 'Aobana-gami,' used for sketching designs in Kyo-Yuzen dyeing. The blue that vanishes instantly when dissolved in water is a traditional color of Kusatsu, essential to the dyeing process. Utilizing this historic specialty, these sand cookies feature a gentle cream sandwiched between crispy dough. You can taste the unique story of Kusatsu during your snack time. They are also a perfect accompaniment to coffee or tea.
