Ayaya Kaitsuburi
Established in 1967, 'Kaitsuburi' is the representative confectionery of Ayaya, named after the grebe (kaitsuburi), the prefectural bird of Shiga Prefecture. The grebe is a very lovely waterbird that carries its chicks on its back during the breeding season. This heartwarming sight is captured in the shape of a plump manju (steamed bun). With a thin dough enveloping a gentle, sweet white bean paste, it is finished with a smooth mouthfeel. With its adorable appearance and comforting, rustic taste, this item has long been a staple Shiga souvenir. This confection, inspired by the prefectural bird which can be considered a symbol of Lake Biwa, is perfect for a gift full of Shiga's essence. It is a gentle manju that will delight everyone from children to the elderly.
