Kaiundo 'Kore wa Umai' (This is Delicious)
'Kore wa Umai' is a Japanese confection proudly named by the long-established Kaiundo of Matsumoto City. Founded in 1884, Kaiundo is a confectionery shop in Matsumoto with over 130 years of history. 'Kore wa Umai' is a walnut manju (steamed bun) born in the Taisho era, originally simply called 'Kurumi Manju' (Walnut Manju). It is said that as customers repeatedly remarked, 'Kore wa umai ne' (This is delicious, isn't it?), the name eventually became popular. This treat features Hokkaido red bean paste wrapped in Shinshu-grown wheat dough, topped with walnuts and baked to a fragrant perfection. As its unpretentious name suggests, it is simply delicious. It is perfect for serving with tea and allows you to experience the true skill of a Matsumoto mainstay. It is also highly recommended as a souvenir.
