Asanoya Blueberry Pie
A morning in Karuizawa, the fragrant aroma of bread wafting from a stone oven—the blueberry pie from "Boulangerie Asanoya" evokes such a day in the highlands. Asanoya was founded in 1933 in Kojimachi, Tokyo. Due to its location surrounded by various embassies, it refined European-style bread making, such as French and German breads, and eventually took root in the summer resort of Karuently. It is an established shop that has pursued its own unique style of bread making, including being the first in Japan to introduce a Spanish-made circular stone oven in 1986. Blueberries are a beloved fruit even in Karuizawa, and this pie, which captures their sweet and tart flavor abundantly, pairs perfectly with the crispy pastry. Brew some coffee and enjoy a slice. It is a treat that seems to transport you even to the cool air of Karuizawa.
