Izumiya Kashiten Castella

A simple and rustic castella from Izumiya Kashiten, passed down in Saku, a post town on the Nakasendo highway. It features a moist sponge and a rich egg flavor. Its unpretentious, straightforward deliciousness has been loved for a long time. Izumiya Kashiten was founded in 1920 (Taisho 9). Located in Iwamurada, which flourished as a key point on the Nakasendo, this long-established shop has continued to create confectionery using Saku's rich agricultural products. The spirit of 'Shinpu-fuji' (the unity of body and local food), which values local blessings, is deeply rooted in its foundation. It spreads a gentle sweetness that feels somewhat nostalgic. It is a simple, Saku-style sweet that makes you want to slowly enjoy a perfect slice with your whole family during tea time.
