Futabado Hanabira Mochi

An elegant traditional sweet to celebrate the New Year. Futabado's 'Hanabira Mochi' is a seasonal masterpiece crafted by a Nagano confectionery shop, featuring a Japanese sweet with imperial court origins traditionally enjoyed during the New Year. Hanabira Mochi is said to originate from the 'Hagatame' New Year ceremony of the Heian period imperial court. It was simplified during the Edo period into its current form: white miso bean paste and burdock root wrapped in gyuhi (soft mochi). The burdock root carries wishes for a 'solid foundation for the home' and 'longevity,' and it has long been enjoyed as a sweet for the first tea ceremony (Hatsugama) of the Urasenke school. With the mellow sweetness of white miso and the subtle flavor of burgo, it is an elegant and refined taste perfect for New Year's greetings. It will add a brilliant touch to your New Year's tea time.
