Izumiya Kashiten Asama-yama

A representative baked manju of Saku that reflects the majestic appearance of Mount Asama. Izumiya Kashiten is a long-established shop in Saku City, founded in 1920. They have continued to create confectionery that utilizes the rich agricultural products of Saku, valuing the spirit of 'Shin-do-fu-ji' (the unity of body and earth). 'Asama-yama' is a simple treat consisting of gyuhi (sweet rice cake) made from Saku Plain rice, filled with ogura bean paste made from Hokkaido adzuki beans, and covered in a baked crust. It is named after the famous peak, Mount Asama, which stands on the border of Nagano and Gunma. The compatibility between the chewy texture of the gyuhi and the simple sweetness of the bean paste is exceptional. This confection has long been beloved locally as a famous sweet of the Saku Plain, meant to be enjoyed while gazing at Mount Asama.
