Issa Senbei

A simple and warm-tasting rice cracker inspired by the hometown of the haiku poet Kobayashi Issa. Kobayashi Issa was an Edo-period haiku poet born in Shinano-machi (formerly Kashiwabara) who left behind many verses during his lifetime. He is known for his friendly poems such as 'Don't lose, thin frog, Issa is here.' Created in honor of his birthplace, Issa Senbei has been beloved for its traditional flavor that evokes the landscape of Shinano. Its gentle sweetness and savory aroma make it a perfect accompaniment to tea. It is an ideal souvenir when traveling through Northern Shinano, where the Issa Memorial Museum is located. Nibbling on these while humming Issa's verses provides a nostalgic taste of northern Shinshu.
