Ptarmigan Egg (Raicho no Tamago)
An adorable confection shaped like a ptarmigan egg, protected by a white shell. The ptarmigan is the prefectural bird of Nagano and a Special Natural Monument of Japan, living in the high mountains of the Northern Alps. Using these precious eggs as a motif, Shinshu Mebukido of Matsumoto has created this treat. White chocolate serves as the 'shell,' gently enveloping a moist sponge cake filled with a lightly sweetened yolk-flavored bean paste. It is highly regarded for both its adorable appearance and ease of eating. This is a quintessential Shinshu confection that allows you to take home a memory of your mountain resort trip. The rounded, egg-like form is lovely, and its comforting flavor makes it a souvenir that children will surely enjoy.
