Kurian Fuminido Kuri Yokan
Founded in 1864, Kurian Fuminido is located near the Hokusai Museum in Obuse. This 'Kuri Yokan' (chestnut jelly) is a specialty of this long-established shop, known for its chestnut sweets made exclusively from domestic chestnuts. Each log is crafted by slowly stirring a paste made of pure domestic chestnut with high-quality agar from Ina in a specially ordered copper pot. The natural, mellow sweetness of the chestnuts and the smooth texture are particularly beloved by chestnut enthusiasts. The town of Obuse has been known as a famous producer of chestnuts since the Edo period, and this is a traditional flavor that carries that legacy to the present day. Obuse is also known as the town where Hokusai spent his later years. This is a comforting Japanese sweet that captures the flavor of the chestnut, perfect to enjoy while strolling through the historic streets. This single log is recommended for tea time or as a gift.
