Shinzuru Honten Shinzuru Shio Yokan

In front of the Akimiya shrine of Suwa Taisha, there is a long-established shop said to be the origin of Salted Yokan (Shio Yokan). Shinzuru Honten in Shimosuwa Town was founded in 1873. The Salted Yokan created by the first generation uses carefully selected adzuki beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido, and agar from Chino. It is manually kneaded over a fire of oak wood—a production method that has remained unchanged since the founding. Its hallmark is a refreshing sweetness accented by salt, where the flavor of the adzuki beans stands out sharply behind the sweetness. Even now, just as in the past, it remains an indispensable slice for tea time in Shimosuwa. One bite will surprise you with the exquisite balance of sweetness and salinity. After visiting Suwa Taisha, please try the original taste that has continued for 150 years at the shrine gate.
