Ome Senbei (Ome Rice Crackers)
When cracked with a crisp snap, a fragrant sweetness gently rises. It has a nostalgic flavor characterized by the savory notes of sesame oil and soy sauce. One bite of its simple deliciousness brings a sense of relief. Ome Senbei is a famous confection produced in Ome City, located in the northwestern part of the Tama region in Tokyo. These are baked treats similar to kawara-senbei (tile crackers), made from sugar, flour, eggs, sesame oil, and soy sauce, with a flavor preserved by a long-established shop with over a hundred years of history. Shaped like plum blossoms inspired by ancient plum trees, each cracker is relatively large, measuring about 9 cm in diameter, making it quite satisfying to eat. Pour some tea and enjoy a crispy piece. Its unpretentious simplicity is what truly touches the heart. It is a classic, traditional souvenir from Tokyo.
