Mangan-do Usu-kawa Imo-kin
When you break through the thinly baked skin, a sticky sweet potato paste is revealed. It features a moist texture reminiscent of high-quality roasted sweet potato, with the natural, gentle sweetness of the potato spreading slowly across your tongue. Mangan-do is a long-established shop in Asakusa founded in 1886. This flavor carries on the legend that 'Dote no Imo-kintsuba' (embankment sweet potato kintsuba) was loved by the courtesans around the Yoshiwara district in the Edo period. Usu-kawa Imo-kin was created so that the flavor and texture of that imokin can be enjoyed for a longer time. Using high-quality sweet potatoes from Kagoshima Prefecture, the skin is thinly baked to enhance the fluffy texture of the sweet potato paste. A refined sweetness and a crumbly melt-in-the-mouth sensation. Paired with warm tea, it deeply relaxes the soul. It is a nutritious Japanese confection perfectly suited as a souvenir from Asakusa.
