Sankudo Ningyo-yaki (Smooth Bean Paste)
When you take freshly baked ningyo-yaki out of its wrapper, a sweet aroma rises along with a gentle puff of steam. Breaking open the fluffy dough reveals a generous amount of smooth bean paste. The happiness of eating it while it's still warm is exceptional. Sankudo is a shop that bakes ningyo-yaki on Nakamise Street in Asakusa. The design features three iconic shapes of Asakusa: the Kaminarimon lantern, a pigeon, and the five-story pagoda of Senso-ji Temple. Wanting young people to enjoy it as well, we have continuously refined our flavor through repeated prototyping of both the dough and the bean paste to suit the times. Because freshly baked items are wrapped in special film, the warmth and fragrance are delivered exactly as they are. Eating them warm amidst the crowds of Nakamise allows the atmosphere of Asakusa to soak into your very being. It is a perfect souvenir from the traditional downtown area.
