Shihose Manju
When you break through the glossy, thin skin, the aroma of grated Yamato potato (Yamaimo) gently rises. These small manju are designed to be enjoyed in a single bite. The elegant shoyui skin and the gentle sweetness of the smooth smooth bean paste slowly melt in your mouth. These are crafted by Shiose Sohonke, which is said to have been founded in 1349. It is a long-established shop considered to be the origin of Japanese confectionery, as its founder, Join Hayashi, is credited with creating Japan's first sweet azuki bean paste manju. Later, at a gathering at Chinzanso, these bite-sized manju gained great popularity and became widely known with the 'Shihose' brand mark. Over 680 years of history reside within this single small morsel. It is a perfect Tokyo souvenir that makes you want to brew a cup of tea and savor the moment slowly.
