Tamagawaya Nio-mochi

Soft mochi with the subtle sweetness of fragrant red bean paste. With a single bite, the chewy texture gently clings to your teeth, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Tamagawaya is a Japanese confectionery shop established in Meguro in 1923 (Taisho 12). The name 'Nio-mochi' is derived from the Nio statues enshrined at the nearby Meguro Fudoson temple. The name lives on through a warm connection with the local community, as the third generation of the family donated a Nio statue to the main hall rebuilt after the war. It has also been a long-standing tradition for the shop to set up a stall at Meguro Fudoson during the monthly market on the 28th. A simple and warm flavor that has walked alongside local faith. Because it is unpretentious, it is perfect for daily tea time. A souvenir from Meguro, brimming with old downtown charm.
