Ganso Kimura-ya Ningyo-yaki Honpo An-iri Ningyo-yaki
The fragrant aroma of freshly baked treats drifts even through the crowds of Nakamise. Inside the fluffy batter is a generous amount of smooth red bean paste. The cute shapes of Raijin (Thunder God), the five-story pagoda, and pigeons excite the heart before you even eat. The Kimura-ya main store is the origin of Ningyo-yaki, born in the Nakamise area of Senso-ji Temple in 1868. Among the many Ningyo-yaki shops in Asakusa, it has the longest history, and the four traditional shapes devised by the founder—the Kaminarimon lantern, Raijin, the five-story pagoda, and the pigeon—are still passed down today. The shop is also deeply thoughtful, offering 'no bean paste' versions for those who do not like red bean. Always freshly baked, with fun shapes. As a soul sweet of Asakusa, it is a flavor that delights both children and adults. Please enjoy one as a companion to your stroll through the old downtown.
