Aoyagi Masaie Chestnut Steamed Yokan
Golden chestnuts peek out from the sliced cross-section. A luxurious single piece that brings autumn to your mouth in one bite, featuring a bouncy, melt-in-your-mouth yokan paired with sweet, fluffy chestnuts. Aoyagi Masaie is a famous confectionery shop founded in Mukojima in 1948. It has a prestigious origin: during a national confectionery presentation ceremony the following year, Lord Sanetaka Ichijo took such a liking to their sweets that he bestowed upon them the name "Masaie." Their signature Chestnut Steamed Yokan boasts a clear bean paste made from adzuki beans carefully processed to remove all bitterness. The elegant, wisteria-colored hue directly reflects the meticulous craftsmanship of the artisans. Pair it with a cup of strong tea. The time spent as the moist yokan and the sweetness of the chestnut dissolve on your tongue is an indescribable happiness. It is also highly recommended as a souvenir for someone special.
