Juchheim Cafe Europ Baumkuchen (Plain)

When you bite into the moist cake, the gentle sweetness of butter and eggs spreads softly. The smooth, melting texture is truly the quintessential taste of Baumkuchen. The first person to bake this confection in Japan was Karl Juchheim, a pastry chef from Germany. Having arrived in Japan as a prisoner of war during World War I, he presented Baumkuchen at an exhibition held in Hiroshima in 1919. This is considered the very first one baked in Japan. For over 100 years since then, Juchheim has carefully continued to protect this traditional taste. The many layers, overlapping like annual tree rings, softly tell the story of its long-loved history.
